[FR] La locomotive a été fabriquée en Allemagne en 1883 par la société Henschel & Sohn, pour les tramways à vapeur naissants de la province de Pise. Les six premières locomotives, selon la tradition de l'époque, portaient toutes des noms importants : Vittorio Emanuele, Galileo Galilei, Dante Alighieri, Leonardo Fibonacci, Alfredo Cappellini et Camilla del Lante. Cette première série de machines est entrée en service en 1884 sur la ligne de tramway Pise-Pontedera, en 1887 sur la branche Navacchio-Calci-Uliveto et en 1892 sur le tronçon achevé jusqu'à Boccadarno. La locomotive à vapeur a été active pendant 37 ans à Pise, jusqu'en 1921, date à laquelle elle a été vendue aux tramways de Bologne.
De 1932 à 1960, le tramway a été remplacé, dans le tronçon de Pise vers la côte, par une ligne électrique. Le "Dante Alighieri", le seul survivant après la démolition de tous les autres, est devenu la propriété du Dr. Mauro Ferrato de la société Ferrato Davide S.a.s. de Padoue. La locomotive, qui serait la plus ancienne d'Italie, a été demandée en 2021 en prêt à usage par la municipalité de Pise, pour la mettre en exposition sur la place de Marina di Pisa, exactement sur l'ancien parcours.

[EN] The locomotive was manufactured in Germany in 1883 by the company Henschel & Sohn, for the nascent steam tramways in the province of Pisa. The first six locomotives, in the tradition of the time, all had important names: Vittorio Emanuele, Galileo Galilei, Dante Alighieri, Leonardo Fibonacci, Alfredo Cappellini and Camilla del Lante. This first provision of machines entered service in 1884 on the Pisa-Pontedera tramway line, in 1887 in the branch Navacchio-Calci-Uliveto and in 1892 on the completed section up to Boccadarno. The steam locomotive was active for 37 years in Pisa, until 1921, when it was sold to the tramways of Bologna.
From 1932 to 1960 the tram was replaced, in the stretch from Pisa towards the coast, by an electric line. The "Dante Alighieri", the only surviving as all the others were demolished, became the property of Dr. Mauro Ferrato of the company Ferrato Davide S.a.s. of Padua. The locomotive, which is believed to be the oldest in Italy, was requested in 2021 on loan for use by the Municipality of Pisa, to put it on display in the square of Marina di Pisa, exactly on the ancient route.
